Virtual Assistant – A respected industry
I came across a comment whilst looking for useful videos on You-Tube over the weekend
“Virtual Assistant – another scam for making money online” – is this just ignorance talking or are Virtual Assistants really seen in that way to the general ‘Jo Public’?
I feel that I needed to defend what I and many other Virtual Assistants work so hard at.
I haven’t written a post for a while as I’ve been so busy supporting clients, but this really put fire in my belly and I couldn’t resist.
Those said clients, some are sole business owners, others smaller corporations and others from large international companies.
These clients rely on experienced, skilled support to carry out important tasks such as report formatting, proofreading, maintaining their online presence, scheduling meetings with potential new customers or clients, all of which is to maintain credibility, and to ensure they deliver the services they provide at the quality their customers deserve and expect.
So what is it that we do? we don’t just sit at our desks answering the telephones or replying to emails, we support our clients by being professional, maintaining high standards of work, delivering what we promised to deliver, and over and above all running a business.
Quite often we work out of hours to ensure that all important meeting is booked, or format that report that needs to be in someone’s inbox by 08:30 on a Monday morning, we’re always on hand to support our clients whenever they need us. Are scammers always around when you need them?
So please, if you think that being a Virtual Assistant is a term to scam people out of money, I dare you to step in our shoes for a day and see if you can handle the heat.

Kelly I agree with you. I can only imagine that these comments are based on a lack of true knowledge or understanding what a VA is all about. It could also be due to a bad experience they have had with someone who has assumed the role of a VA, but is someone that has shown themselves to be unprofessional.
It is like making a comment that someone is ‘just a PA’. There is more that meets the eye.
However, this is one of the reasons why I established the National VA Conference and Awards (www.vaconference.co.uk) to help create positive awareness and promotion for the VA industry and recognise their achievements too. And I can honestly say that judging from our winners, they will only ever add great value to your business and arefar removed from a so-called scam!
So Kelly, arm in arm, let’s do it for the VAs!!!

Thanks Carmen
There’s probably a lot of truth in that you know. Let’s not be mistaken, whilst there are a hell of a lot of good VA’s out there, there are also not so good ones, so anyone looking for a VA to support them should consider it as they would any other employee entering their business.
“So Kelly, arm in arm, let’s do it for the VAs!!!” – LETS!!!

Kelly,
There seems to be some problems with regards to virtual assistant and what they can do for you. One thing that I do know is that they are nearly all hard working and skilled individuals. They certainly aren’t con artists.
I’ve added a virtual assistants page to our UK business blog and you are more than welcome to submit an article yourself to promote the work of virtual assistants.
Hi Dave
Thanks for the comment, much appreciated, and thanks for adding my entry to your site Best Buy Reviews
I would be interested to know what you meant by “There seems to be some problems with regards to Virtual Assistants and What they can do for you”
Have you had first hand experience of using a Virtual Assistant, and maybe not enjoyed it? would love to know more.
It is a shame that the vast majority of VA’s who are damn good at what they (we) do have to climb the mountain of re-gaining people’s trust after having a bad experience.
I guess anyone who is looking, and considering using a VA, should almost definitely obtain references from previous or current clients to ensure they don’t get stung by the minority of shall we say, “don’t have the skills” Virtual Assistants.
*off my soap box* ;o)
