What do you think of when you imagine a networking event? folks in suits talking about their business and selling products? yep me too!

It doesn’t have to be that way you know, when you’re at your Christmas parties this week, remember to take advantage of new contacts you mingle with. Be prepared for whatever opportunities arise. If you’re like me, I always have a good supply of business cards in my handbag.

But why is a business card so important? and what should your business card say about you?

The obvious would be your name, contact information (to include website) and not forgetting your Twitter name. Ensure you have the perfect job title, this will convey your expertise, why not include a head shot of yourself so that people know what you look like, especially if you happen to bump into them again.

When you do meet someone for the first time, treat it like you a  a date, don’t jump in with both feet, do a little flirting, create a scene of mystery, making the other person wanting to know more. Lets face it, no one enjoys listening to someone talking about themselves constantly.

Make sure to make your business card attractive and eye catching, but not too fancy. When that contact takes your business card away, chances are they’ll forget about you….. until they see your business card again ;o)
